What to do when we aren’t together…

There isn't a whole lot, but it's just enough! Check out some of our favorite places around BHI to explore outside of the provided meals and weekend festivities.

All of the below (and the locations of hosted events) are mapped here for easy navigating!

Our Favorites

Bald Head Bottle

New in the last few years, this is a must whenever we are on the island now. They have orange wine (Caroline’s favorite) by the glass and bottle. Bring a pack of cards for a fun afternoon of wine and games on the porch or swing by to grab a bottle to sip on at your rental.

Room Service

This place is packed with local art, coffee table books, candles, and other surcees, making it impossible not to buy a lil something every single time.

Wildlife Overlook

The nature on Bald Head Island is what makes this place so unique and captivating. The Wildlife Overlook may not look like much in the middle of the day, but stop by at dusk and you’ll see hundreds of ibis, herons and egrets fly in to roost for the night. If you’re an early riser, you’ll be able to catch them exit in masses as the sun rises each morning. You may even catch Gordon the gator stalking the waters.

Breakfast & Coffee

Midway Coffee BHI

A very central option, Midway Coffee is a quick grab-and-go spot with lattes, smoothies, avocado toast, and breakfast tacos.

Sandpiper Coffee & Ice Cream

Another quick spot, Sand Piper Coffee has coffee, ice cream and pastries (what more could you need). This is located on the marina near other shops and is a regular stop at the end of a trip when heading to the ferry.

Boathouse BHI

A sit-down breakfast option, Boat House is another great choice in the marina shopping area. The daily frittata and the beignets are always delish.

Restaurants & Clubs

Shoals Club

Many house rentals include entry to the clubs. At Shoals, the pool and restaurant overlook the beach. Ideal order: Jumbo shrimp (with Old Bay fries) & a frosé.

Bald Head Island Club

The larger of the two clubs, BHI Club offers great food and beautiful golf. Horizons is the Club's spot for casual coastal cuisine and American classics. The Palms is another great pick for oysters, flatbreads, and craft cocktails.

Jules’ Salty Grub & Island Pub

A view of the marina and fried shrimp. 'nuff said.

Jailhouse Provisions

Great casual American and seafood fare. Favorites include shrimp chipotle wrap, scallops basket, and the mix berry salad w the fresh catch. Pair it with a Blueberry Lights Out and you're set.

Other (Shopping, Wildlife Walks, & More)

BHI Conservancy

There are tons of walking and biking trails around the island—the BHI Conservancy has these mapped out on their website for easy exploring. You can also check out the Turtle Conservancy where you can learn about the team’s mission to protect sea turtles & related conservation efforts.

Shopping & Nature Collide: October is Oyster Month in North Carolina. During the month, proceeds from oyster-related merchandise at Turtle Central go to sustain and grow NC oysters in partnership with NC Oyster Trail.

Monkee’s

Right beside the BHI Bottle wine bar, there is a Monkee’s. They typically have fabulous sales in the autumn.
